Philomusica Concert Choir, Dennis Boyle, Music Director/Conductor, is pleased to announce its 2016 May concerts “SONGS OF LOVE AND INNOCENCE.” Performances will be on Saturday, May 21 at 8 pm and on Sunday May 22 at 4 pm at Our Lady of Peace Church, 1740 Rt. 130 N, North Brunswick, NJ.
The program includes Eric Whitacre’s “Five Hebrew Love Songs", with poems by Hila Plitmann, wife of Mr. Whitacre, and music by Mt. Whiteacre. The guest violinist will be Elena Chernova-Davis, faculty of Mason Gross School of the Arts. The piano accompanist will be Shea Velloso, Philomusica’s accompanist.
Johannes Brahms' "Liebeslieder Waltzer Opus 52" follows. This version is for four-part voices and four hand piano accompaniment. The waltzes express a range of emotions on the subject of love. Brenda Day, well-known New Jersey musician, will be the guest pianist, along with Shea Velloso, Philomusica’s accompanist.
The second half of the concert consists entirely of Norman Noll’s “Songs of Innocence”, commissioned from Mr. Noll in 1995 by Philomusica for its Silver Anniversary season, and revised in 2015. Set to poems by William Blake (published in 1789), it begins with an atmosphere of child-like simplicity and progresses into expressions of greater complexity to the ending, which reflects back upon the beginning innocence of the piece, as if from an adult point of view. Shea Velloso will be the accompanist.
General tickets: $20 Adult; $15 Senior/Student; $10 Children under 13. Discounts of $2.00 on tickets bought in advance (by Friday noon May 20). Group discounts. Information and tickets call 732.993.5400, email email@example.com, or visit www.philomusica.org. Like us on Facebook.
