Looking for SAB or SSAB work...
Date: March 17, 2016
I have a hole in my upcoming repertoire. I need a slow song that is not in English and is not American or Bristish Isles based.
A good example is Durme, Durme - a sweet Sephardic lullaby. Sadly, we sang it at Christmas. We also sang Hine Ma Tov.
When I go looking for works that are decidedly multicultural, I find a lot of fun, up beat songs, which is exactly what I don't want. They already have two fun, upbeat peices, so I need soemthing else.
I looked at JW Pepper and, while I found a few, none really spoke to me. I would be fine if it was a blend of English and another language, and I think I would prefer South American in flavor (another choir is singing Cumbia del Sol and I like to have all the choirs, if possible, sing something from the same source.) I refuse to believe there are no lovely Spanish folk tunes, but I am not seeing them. I will need a pronunciation guide, as I cleverly studied German in high school, so most of the languages down south are opaque to me.
Any suggestions on something that a good middle school choir can sing? They can sing accompanied (piano) or a cappella. 2-3 minutes long, no particular theme requested - I will accept religious, nonsense, love, friendship, etc, so long as it is school appropriate.
