Madama Butterfly and Opera Scenes Progarm in Bulgaria

Location: Bulgaria
We are excited to inform you that this summer, Varna International will offer its 5th Opera Academy, featuring Puccini’s Madama Butterfly, which will take place in Bulgaria from June 10 to July 4, 2016. The Academy will be held in collaboration with the Stara Zagora State Opera.

Opera academy applicants accepted into this unique four-week program will receive expert training under the tutelage of the academy’s internationally renowned faculty.

Participants will benefit from prestigious performance opportunities to include the following:
  • Leading, supporting or understudy roles in the fully-staged orchestral performances of Puccini’s Madama Butterfly.
  • Featured participation in the Opera Scenes Program which will present two orchestral concerts of scenes from famous operas.
  • Possible solo opportunities in Vivaldi’s Gloria and Schubert’s Mass in G.
This year Varna International will admit three casts into the program.  Each cast will be featured in one fully-staged performance at the Stara Zagora Opera House and the Plovdiv Ancient Theatre with a professional orchestra conducted by the internationally recognized Maestros, Bruce Chamberlain and Dian Tchobanov.

Opera singers will receive weekly voice lessons from our world-renowned voice faculty; coaching focusing on interpretation, diction and style; ensemble and blocking rehearsals directed by the Maestro and Stage Director; and Italian language training.
