Location: Illinois, USA
The Lutheran Youth Choir International, an ecumenical summer touring choir for high school students founded in 2005, is offering up to 20 qualified singers a $1,000 scholarship for travel to Germany in summer 2017, the highly anticipated "Luther500" year. The scholarship will be applied to the tuition and travel costs, approx. $3,500, of participation in the choir's 2017 Festival of American Vocal Music in Mansfeld-Lutherstadt, Germany, the boyhood home of Martin Luther. The Festival, set for July 22-August 1, 2017, takes place at a fully-restored 14th century castle where the combined American and German singers will live, rehearse, and perform. Other venues will include churches in Berlin and towns in the region of central Germany where Bach and Luther worked. This will be the Lutheran Youth Choir's fourth festival in Germany since 2011. Students do not need to be Lutheran or to speak German to participate.
