Not really a choral question, but thought some of you might have ideas.
I teach a collegiate General Education course called Arts and Music. My college is on the T line (subway) just outside of Boston. We have quick and easy access to a world of cultural events, museums, concerts, etc. I would like to make a proposal to my administration that we change the course from a traditional art and music history type course to an experiential course, where they students are going to lectures in the city, to museums and concerts rather than listening to recordings and looking at slides.
Anyone know of other schools that do their fine arts requirement in this manner. Or schools doing interesting things like this with their general education curriculum. Also, ideas about learning outcomes and assessments that can stay consistent from semester to semester while the content changes with what's going on in the city.
Love to have you brainstorm with me or share things that you've seen in other places.
