Join the Helmuth Rilling & Anton Armstrong Select Honor Choir Performing Bach Cantata & Motets at St. Thomas Church in Leipzig

Conductor and Bach scholar Helmuth Rilling and St. Olaf Choir conductor Anton Armstrong will lead a Gala Concert Performance at St. Thomas Church in Leipzig on June 21, 2017 to commemorate the 500th Anniversary of the Reformation. Be part of this select honor choir, participate in lectures by Maestro Rilling and perform Bach Cantata and Motets including:
  • "Eine Feste Burg ist unser Gott" BWV 80
  • "Der Geist hilft unserer Schwachheit auf" BWV 226
  • "Singet dem Herrn ein neues Lied" BWV 225
J.S. Bach was the cantor at St. Thomas Church in Leipzig from 1723 until his death in 1750 and is buried in the sanctuary. St. Thomas has a rich music history and outstanding acoustics. Mozart played its organ in 1789, Wagner was baptized there, and Mendelssohn conducted the first performance of Bach’s St. Matthew’s Passion after the composer’s death at St. Thomas.
