Inscription of Hope

Does anyone know the original source upon which Stroope based the text to Inscription of Hope?  I am interested in the original words/poetry.
Thanks so much.

Hi Ginny -
This seems to be the background material you mention.
Best wishes,
Mike

Thanks Mike.  We want to use the text in a different context and I want to make sure the words are the original ones on the tablets.  This reference seems to indicate that they are.

Hi Ginny. I am glad Mike responded with the source of the text. I am more concerned, however, about the source of the music. The octavo states that the tune is "Quoting a Russian Folk Tune." However a Russian conductor who was reviewing my children's choir CD recording called me up and said (alarmingly) that this was a popular tune in Russia that was very much still under copyright protection. Of course, I have no way of verifying that, but I now use the piece with caution.
