preferably with appeal to the youths being confirmed.

Alexa Doebele

You can look my motets in my website

Here are two titles we rotate:
I Have Decided
Philip Orr ORGG 0401
SAB with solo, piano
I ususally split the solo part, assigning it to one male, one female.
Excellent craftsmanship, appealing music. Available (I believe only) at
Phil's online publishing house. He's a good friend and I admire both him and
his music greatly.
All Things Are Yours
Carl Schalk (text by Jaroslav J. Vajda)
SATB with optional congregation, Organ
MorningStar MSM-50-9032
I've also used this one, but not on confirmation, though it would fit well:
Go, My Children, With My Blessing
Walter L. Pelz
SATB, opt. Congregation, Organ
MorningStar MSM-50-8900
Here are two I've never used, but look promising:
A Hymn for Confirmation
Alice Parker, text by Fred Kaan
SAB and Congregation (possible SATB choir added, assuming SAB section is
youth, I'm assuming)
Lord, Here Am I
Stephen Paulus, text by Herbert Brokering
2 part chorus, guitar and/or piano
Paulus Publications SP 298

Teach Me Thy Way, O Lord - arr. Paul Sjolund, TTBB a cappella, Fred Bock
Commitment - Lloyd Pfautsch, SATB a cappella + flute obbligato, Augsburg

I have used a short anthem called Whitsunprayer (mine) based on Herbert's
poem Whitsuntide. The text speaks of the dove spreading its wings within
the individual and the music depicts this image throughout. The anthem is
published by Kjos.

You might also consider my "Gazing Up At Stars." The text was penned by a
young man dying of cancer who had a very profound outlook on his impending
demise. The South Carolina All-State Choir programmed the piece last
spring. It was the first thing I wrote during my year on the Rome Prize
Fellowship. It is published by The Newmatic Press.

Three anthems that I have used for confirmation have been:
You Are Mine by David Haas, GIA Publications
Down to the River to Pray, Arr. by Sheldon Curry, Daybreak Music
I'm Gonna Live so God Can Use Me, by David and Allen Pote,
Publishing Co.

We have confirmation on Pentecost and have used "Hymn of Fire" by Eugene
The youth seem to enjoy it as it is quite rhythmic and lively.
Just one thought.

K. Lee Scott: Best of All Friends

It's really 2-pt--beautiful music, wonderful text.

I used an arrangement of the Spiritual "This Little Light of Mine" for
Confirmation May 4th which was very successful. It is unison voices and
piano but I wrote a part for flute and we improvised percussion parts. The
arrangement I used came from the Spirit and Song book published by Oregon
Catholic Press and is available over the internet. This book has lots of
great music for youth priase. I also used "Shine, Jesus, Shine" (refrain 3
times) for the entrance, from this collection.

I like to use

"Write Your Blessed Name" (Grotenhuis)
and on the more uptempo side: "Order My Steps" (Burleigh)

Where did you find Alice Parker's "A Hymn for Confirmation?" Hope cannot find it, and Alice Parker's site says that Hope has the rights to it.
